Abstract
House of Tjong A Fie is one building that is protected as a historical heritage artifacts in Medan which is showing historical values, culture, and knowledge. The purpose of this study is to find the organization of spacein the house of Tjong A Fie based on the philosophy of traditional Chinese architecture. Results of this study will provide an overview of the potential and uniqueness sby Tjong A Fie House as one of therelics of ethnic Chinese residential architecturein his day. Architecture research methodis a qualitative research method, which field on historical interpretive. It examines the phenomenonof physical/social context that is between the complex, through the explanation in the form of narrative and thorough. Research will go through several stages, namely:1) Collection and classification of primary and secondary data, 2) Evaluation of data through analysis and interpretation of the data in the form of assessment, and 3) aconclusionin the form of narrative explanation. The results showed that The House of Tjong A Fie apply the concept of traditional Chinese architecture on its spatial organization. It is based ontraditional Chinese philosophy, namely: 1) Dao; 2) Kongfusianisme, and 3) Feng-shui. The concept of traditional Chinese architecture reflected on the architectural elements1) wall; 2) Jian; 3) axis; 4) space orientation, and 5) Courtyard.
