Abstract

This study examines the framing of newspaper on issues of film censorship which has become a polemic in public debate of the film industry in Indonesia. Content analysis was made on media coverage on the role of censorship system in Indonesia. The aim of this study to explore textual meaning of news in an events that happened in the film industry. Thus it will become important for the audience to understand the reality in the film industry in Indonesia. The study was conducted using qualitative content analysis to determine how the media framed the events in a particular construction. The sample of this study is the framing of two online newspapers, namely Republika and Kompas. Based on framing theory, these study explore the implications of the methods used in analyzing news. Data were analyzed using Pan & Kosicki (1993) framing model in giving meaning to the text of news as the main element of this study. Results from this study found that there are different framing of both newspapers on the issues of film censorship in Indonesia.
