Abstract

This book analysed the role of Indonesian Military in the province of Aceh, in curving the long-lasted insurgence in the Province, that was known as the Gerakan Aceh Merdeka (Free Aceh Movement). It is assumed that the brutality of the forces that had caused serious violation of human right has gained international attention which simultaneously fueled the demand for separation and independent from the local civilian in combination with local student activist; and the peak of the peaceful insurgence was marked by the populist demand for referendum in the capital city of Aceh province in 1999. The book concluded that the insurgency could only be settled peacefully with the intervention of the third party, as the mediator of the dialoge, as it sounded by the elite of the GAM.
