Abstract

This study focused on the ability of fast-reading-comprehension Malikussaleh University students. Which is desirable in this study is the extent of the student's ability to read-fast-book reading comprehension. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative method. Data collection techniques is the technique of rapid-test reading-comprehension reading text. Such techniques form of text reading to the students and also given a booklet containing questions about the reading. Of this technique is seen is the number of words per minute that is able to be read by students. Furthermore, words per minute was associated with persntase number of correct answers given problem. From the results of the data are then analyzed using the formula speed reading comprehension. From this formula, it was noted later reading skill levels of the students at the University Malikussaleh. The results obtained in this study were almost all the students are still at the elementary level in reading comprehension, which is in the range of <140 kpm or 93.3% of the total number of data sources. Then, the reading comprehension of students who are at junior level only about 1.2%, which is in the range of 140-175 kpm. Furthermore, the ability of reading comprehension of students who are at the high school level only 5.2%. Finally, the level of students' ability in reading comprehension that should be at the level of the students just one of 330 students who become sources of data, or only 0.3%. So, when seen from a category value of speed reading comprehension ability, ability Unimal students in the category is very less, which is in the range 0-44.
