Abstract

. Indonesia is one of the producers of iron sand, including the Aceh province. However, the Aceh iron sand that has been exported overseas are still in raw form and has not been processed into iron so that it can add the economic value of the minerals and increase the Aceh PAD (Region/District own source Revenue) while also supporting the national industry. This article discusses the technology of the iron production process, particularly the process of turning the iron sand into the pig iron. It also reviews some of the findings of the previous studies in the field which are intended to improve the potential of the Aceh iron sand to be processed into the pig iron while also use the slag as the raw materials for pigmen, ceramics, magnet, cosmetics, and photocatalis. In conclusion, the Aceh iron sand has a big potential to support the national industry if it is processed effectively and integratedly, so that it can have a high economic value. Further studies in the field are still significantly needed to support the findings of the previous studies so that the Aceh iron sand can be processed into iron and support the national industry
