Abstract
Didong is a most popular traditional art in middle Aceh. One of ethnics in Aceh Province. It can said as folklore because its function to describe the heart of culkture of the people. Etimologically, Dodong is taken from Gayonese language, means echo. If we explore further, Doding is not only means as simple theater in raund. But deeped, the initial theater or theater of lfe. As a theter, didong artistic contains literature, music, and dance. It tell a narration of life of the peole and give brightful with simple messages that can be absorbed through the mind of native. Nevertheless, Didong traditional has unique entertainment function. It can be useful for aesthetic utterance or beautiness. The necessity for beauty could be get by listening its melodies and watching its moves of dance. Al last, Didong has own role to keep social structure and take equity among the tribes in Gayo ethnic. Key word : local culture, Gayonese art, Theater of life, narration of local people, folklore, social structure.
