Abstract

The most serious impact of climate change is El Nino that results in an increased paddy system of drought. Drought is the most important limiting factor for the sustainability of rice production. The purpose of this study was to identify the agronomical characters of tolerant rice varieties to drought on paddy systems. The experiment was conducted in Babakan Rice Research Field, University Farm of Bogor Agricultural University (±240 m ASL). The research using a split plot design with three replications, drought stress placed as main plots consisting of drought stress three Weeks After Transplanting until harvest; six Weeks After transplanting until harvest;nine Weeks After Transplanting until harvest and Control (without drought stress), while the subplot, which comprises eight varieties of rice varieties namely IR 64, Ciherang, IPB 3S, Way Apo Buru, Jatiluhur, Menthik Wangi, Silugonggo and Rokan. The results showed that drought stress leads to changes in agronomical traits, drought stress three Weeks After Transplanting until harvest and six week until harvest treatment decreased plant height, leaf area index, delayed flowering, lower grain weight per hill. Drought tolerance index positively correlated with leaf area index and grain weight per hill. Jatiluhur, Ciherang and Way Apo Buru varieties had the highest grain weight in severe drought conditions.
